GESS Cash Transfers Delivered to Girls in South Sudan Throughout COVID-19

An ambitious exercise to pay more than 400,000 school girls across South Sudan came to a close at the end of 2020. The Girls’ Education South Sudan (GESS) payment agents navigated flooding and insecurity to reach more than 400,000 girls in classes Primary 5 to Senior 4 in all states of South Sudan.

In November, we launched the second round of Cash Transfers to girls. Special guests, Honourable Minister Awut Deng Acuil; UK Ambassador to South Sudan, Chris Trott; and Canada’s Head of Cooperation, Chelsea Sayers, joined GESS Cash Transfer beneficiaries and GESS Team Leader, Akuja de Garang MBE to address guests at Juba Day Secondary School.
